Introduction to Computers

Learn the basics of the Windows 2000 operating system – mouse skills, Windows taskbar, multitasking, Start menu, My Computer, background, screensavers, use of shortcuts, recycle bin, Windows Desktop objects, basic computer maintenance and more. This class is recommended for anyone. No computer experienced required. Class length 3 hours. (top)

 

Introduction to the Internet

Go surfing! Explore the web. Learn how to use the bells & whistles of your Internet system, as well as good sites to search for information. Conduct a job search by logging onto career sites. No previous Internet experience necessary, but should be proficient with the mouse and keyboard. (top)

 

Basic Word Processing (MS Word)

This 6 hour hands-on course teaches the fundamentals of Microsoft Word 2000. In this course we will learn how to create, edit, format, save and retrieve documents. We will use and understand both the drop down menus and the toolbars. We will also dig deeper into the product, learning about dynamic linking with other applications, table formatting and how to bring graphics into a document, including Word Art.

Prerequisite: Basic Windows mouse and keyboard/typing skills, knowledge of files and directory structure. (top)

 

MS Word Intermediate

Customizing Word (defaults, toolbar, etc), Templates, Headers/Footers, Tabs, More with Tables. (top)

 

Spreadsheets (MS Excel)

This 6 hour hands-on course will teach the student the basic fundamentals of a spreadsheet – how to create, edit, format, save, retrieve and print. Using everyday examples we will create a spreadsheet and graphic representation of data. Time saving tips will be introduced, including Excel Wizards and pre-designed formats. Basics are recommended prior to this class. Offered in English or Spanish.

Prerequisite: Basic Windows, mouse and keyboard skills, knowledge of files and directory structure. (top)

 

MS Excel Intermediate

More with referencing (relative, absolute, 3D), Filters, Subtotals, Linking, We do more hands on with each of these tools. (top)

 

Computer Typing Program

Multi-Media is a self-paced, interactive typing tutor. Start at beginner or more advanced levels and move forward. The software includes games to keep your interest. There are also typing tests and dictation lessons. Recommended for everyone, no prior computer experience necessary. (top)

 

Presentations (MS Powerpoint)

PowerPoint is a powerful presentation graphics program. Its primary purpose is to create a slide presentation on your computer. Using PowerPoint you can create professional-looking handouts, overheads, charts, and other types of visual aids for use in a presentation to a group. Basics are recommended prior to this class. Using MS Word for Desktop Publishing

MS Word is a powerful word processing program with equally powerful desktop publishing features. This class will teach students how to use several MS Word tools to create professional looking brochures, flyers and pamphlets (column / table formatting, clipart, WordArt, text borders, page borders, shading, font formatting, symbols). Students should be very comfortable using MS Word. Prerequisite: MS Word. (top)

 

Introduction to Email and Personal Management Software (Outlook)

Outlook is a personal assistant or desktop manager that keeps track of all kinds of information. It can be used to maintain an address book, track/schedule appointments, create a task list, write electronic sticky notes, or send and receive e-mail (inner office). Outlook also monitors your work and automatically creates a journal of things saved to your computer. Basics are recommended prior to this class. (top)

 

Intermediate Outlook

Attachments, Virus checking of attachments, Formatting email (fonts, colors, alignment, etc), Customizing Outlook, Outlook rules, Some notes on printing. (top)

 

Mail Merge using Word 2000

Mail merge is a tool in MS Word that is used to produce form letters and address envelopes. It can create the same letter many times, changing the name, address and other information as appropriate from letter to letter. In this course we will create a letter and database of customers and merge the two.
Prerequisite: Experience using MS Word is required prior to this class. (top)

 

Introduction to Maintaining and Updating Web Pages (FrontPage)

This 5 hour class will focus on the creation, maintenance and enhancement of web pages. We will also address connecting to a server and publishing technicalities. Web page content will be solely based on the ideas of each individual class member so preparing information (ie: text for each page, and/or pictures) will be expected ahead of time.

Prerequisite: Basic windows, mouse and keyboarding skills, web exposure (simple browsing is sufficient). (top)

 

Windows File Management

When you save a file, do you wonder where it went? When you save a file do you wish you could put it in a different folder? Do you find yourself searching for files you created last week and have no idea where to look. In this hands-on course we will understand the file and folder structure of MS Windows. We will learn how to create our own folders and ‘organize our filing cabinets’.

Prerequisite: More than a basic understanding of MS Windows is expected. (top)
