About
the Apprenticeship Program
Beginning
in September, the Trinity College Trinfo.Cafe begins an intensive
8-month training program for 16 & 17 year old adolescents
from three south Harford high schools – Bulkeley, Hartford
Public, and A.I. Prince Technical School. Eight teens will be
chosen to participate in the program. Each will receive a stipend
of $336 for each training semester completed with a total of $772
if both training semesters are completed.

The
apprenticeship program will consist of a 4-month semester focused
on computer hardware and troubleshooting issues followed by another
4-month semester on computer networks and basic administration.
First semester activities include dismantling and refurbishing used
computers, which will later be redistributed to community residents
within a 15-square block radius of the college, as well as learning
processes for identifying and resolving problems. Second semester
activities are centered around learning how to create, troubleshoot,
and administer computer networks. This includes understanding network
theory, wiring facilities, configuring network hardware, and problem
solving skills.

Schedule
Participants
will meet twice a week for two hours per class, usually in the
afternoon – 4:30 – 6:30. Each youth will also volunteer
2 hours of community service each week. It is during this time
that participants will inventory, refurbish, and distribute computers
to families living in the surrounding neighborhood.
